Gift to Self: New Community Rules by @tamar

Marketing-social-web

Santa's Elf (self) bought herself "The New Community Rules: Marketing on the Social Web" by Tamar Weinberg.

The following opening preface summarizes the importance and value of this book:

"Social media marketing is more than just a buzzword. It's a way of life and a means of survival in today's Internet lifestyle."

Tamar shares the importance of conversation marketing and how social media builds relationships. If you want to learn how to join the conversation, contribute to your community and bring people to your product or service, give yourself the gift of this book!

Enrolled in "iPhone 101" for my new iBaby

Iphone-unwrapped

I'm a new mom and recently adopted an iPhone. I am now officially enrolled in "iPhone 101" parenting class.

I know how to unlock, place a call, take a picture and charge its battery.

Oh, the battery? I imagine my new iBaby needs to eat a lot, so I bought feeding supplies:

·         Micro Auto Charger

·         Travel Battery Pack

I'll be renting out the Batter Pack at conferences, so others can feed their iBabies, too!

Bing & Ask are Competing for "Fire Pictures" Keywords

Fire-picture-serps

Why are Bing and Ask competing in Google PPC for "fire pictures," "fire triangle pictures" and related searches?

These competitive search engines are attempting to draw traffic from Google and expose users to their image searches.

Something to ponder and observe.  Search marketers are in the business of observation, right?

I stumbled upon this insight while searching for a picture for a philosophical blog post about the fire triangle - how heat, fuel & oxygen are required to keep a fire going. Given a number of back-to-back challenges, I've been feeling like my own "internal fire" has been blown out. I'm sufficiently distracted away from writing that blog post ...

New Process: Using Evernote as Image Repository

Evernote_image

Evernote is now my online image repository.

Thanks to Ruud Hein for this post on Search Engine People: Use Evernote As Your WebDev Image Manager (Ruud is the "Process King" in my mind!)

While searching for images for a blog post, I searched Flickr Creative Commons for images. I found two images, saved them as attachments and made notes of their Creative Commons license to note how to give them proper credit.

I used the image shown above in a blog post, Communication & Planning: A Dental Client.

Security Alert: Facebook "Christmas" malware

Alert_koobface_christmas

Koobface is a Facebook “Christmas” malware being passed around this season.  It’s video-based and will ask you to download a video codec to watch it.  DO NOT do it!  The malware will infect your Facebook, MySpace and other social networking sites by logging in. It then sends messages with the infected video to all of your friends.

Beware of a video posted by ‘SantA!’ It will try to trick you into downloading a codec to watch it, which is how the malware infects your social networking pages.

Not all anti-virus software will detect it.
